Usher Responsibilities Overview

Mission Statement

The usher crew at CBC exists to provide helpful service to the pastor and congregation so as to facilitate a pleasant and efficient worship service.

Before the Worship Service Starts

·         All scheduled and substitute ushers are to meet in a designated room with the lead usher at 9:50am.

·         Ushers will be assigned to their stations and conclude in a word of prayer for the service.

·         All ushers need to be in place by 9:55am.

·         The lead usher will be stationed at the front doors of the sanctuary and direct congregants to other ushers for seating as the auditorium fills.

·         The ushers will keep track of how many open seats they have available and communicate this to the lead usher (e.g. hand signals)

·         Ushers will direct congregants which seats to take.

·         Ushers need to fill the auditorium from front to back, saving the front row for last.

·         The lead usher will fill the auditorium before having additional seating set out.

During the Worship Service

·         As the service starts, ushers will remain at their stations, lined up along the back wall.

·         If anyone comes in after the service starts, ushers will assist in finding them a seat.

·         Once Pastor starts to welcome visitors, ushers assigned to the aisles will go to the front, face the congregation, and be ready to pass out visitor cards. Work your way to the back.

·         Be ready to collect the offering. Once Pastor calls for you, the crew needs to walk to the front together and collect the offering together working towards the back.

·         Remain along the wall until the kids are dismissed; hold the door for them as they leave.

·         Ushers will then take their seats. Three ushers will sit towards the back to open doors for people during the service. Be sure to open and close the door quietly.

·         Offer assistance to anyone you don’t recognize or to whomever you think needs help.

Expectations for Ushers

·         Be on time to the usher’s meeting at 9:50. Leave life group if necessary.

·         Greet everyone you can with a smile. Enjoy welcoming people to our church!

·         While stationed, pay close attention to the lead usher as he will need your assistance to seat people. Stay focused! (even after the service has started)

·         Dress appropriately. Please wear long pants and a collared shirt.

·         Be mindful of your personal hygiene. Avoid bad breath, don’t wear too much cologne.
